Mr. Basil Ilangakoon

Mr. Basil Ilangakoon is currently, the Executive Governor of the Marga Institute, Sri Lanka.

After his Graduation from the University of London, Mr Ilangakoon joined the Ministry of Industries of Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) as an Economist. Later, he served in the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs and the Industrial Development Board. In the mid 1970s he joined the Marga Institute and headed a multi disciplinary team of researchers in the Macro Studies Division. From there he moved on as Director of the Social and Economic Development Centre and subsequently assumed duties as Executive Director in charge of Business and Economic Policy at the Sri Lanka Business Development Centre. After a short period of service with the International Cooperation for Socio and Economic Development (CIDSEI) head quartered in Brussels, he returned to Sri Lanka and assumed duties as the Managing Director of the Turnkey Group of Companies.

From mid 1999 he worked as Co-ordinator of the Distance Education for Public Servants Programme administered by the Ministry of Public Administration & Home Affairs of the Government of Sri Lanka. He has been on the Governing Council of Marga since mid 1999.

Mr. Ilangakoon also serves in a voluntary capacity as member of the governing bodies of several Non Governmental Agencies.
