Prof. Wahiduddin Mahmud
Wahiduddin Mahmud has recently retired as Professor of Economics at University of Dhaka, and is currently Chairman of Economic Research Group , and also Chairman of Institute of Microfinance in Dhaka. He is also a member of the UN Committee for Development Policy and a coordinator of International Growth Centre based at LSE and Oxford University. He has frequently carried out assignments for many international organizations and has held appointments at Cambridge, IDS at Sussex, IFPRI, and the World Bank, among others. He has led many government committees and commissions in Bangladesh relating to bank reforms, national income estimation, agricultural reforms, PRSP and MDG monitoring, and preparation of Five Year Plans. H e is a co-founder, and was chairman for the last ten years of PKSF, the apex organization for funding the micro-credit programmes of NGOs in Bangladesh. He was a member of the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh in 1996 in charge of the Ministry of Finance and Planning. His recent and forthcoming books include Adjustment and Beyond: the Reform Experience in South Asia (Palgrave-Macmillan), Handbook on the South Asian Economies (Edward Elgar), The Theory and Practice of Microcredit (Reutledge) and Seasonal Hunger and Public Policies: Evidence from Northwest Bangladesh (World Bank).
