Erstwhile personal adviser to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on matters related to economic rights (from May 1999 to September 2001).

Member of the Advisory Board for the journals Development and Change and European Journal of Development Research. Associate editor of the journal Economics and Human Biology. Member of the Research Advisory Panel for the South Asian Network of Economics Research Institutes (SANEI). Fellow of the Human Development and Capability Association As announced last week, Ahmed will be succeeded at PREM Network by Kemal Dervis, currently serving as Vice-President of the Bank's Middle East and North Africa region. Ahmed will take up his new post by June.
