SANEI: Ongoing Studies

Trade Liberalization And Bangladesh Agriculture: Impacts On Cropping Pattern, Resource Use Efficiency And Effective Incentives

The proposed study will quantify the changes in cropping pattern in Bangladesh agriculture during the last two and half decades and factors contributed to these changes. It will provide estimates on likely changes in cropping pattern due to trade liberalization and open economy. This will quantify the level of both product specific and non-product specific Aggregate Measure of Support (AMS) and other supports (such as export subsidy) currently provided by the Bangladesh government. Based on the estimates, it will provide ex ante projections about the likely impacts of liberalization of agricultural trade and suggest some measures to maximize benefits from trade liberalization and mitigate likely negative impacts through an effective research, development and policy intervention strategy
