Lecture Series

SANEI instituted the SANEI Lecture Series on the occasion of the Third SANEI Conference.

1. The First SANEI Lecture on "Financing for Development: Implications of the Zedillo Report for South Asia" was delivered by Dr. John Williamson, Senior Fellow, Institute of International Economics at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), Dhaka on August 27. Dr. Quazi Shahabuddin , Research Director, BIDS chaired the session.

2. The Second SANEI Lecture on "IMF Conditionality and Country Ownership of Programmes" was delivered on August 29, 2001 by Dr. Mohsin Khan, Director, IMF Institute. Dr. Rakesh Mohan, Chief Economic Advisor to the Finance Minster of India chaired the session.

3. The Third SANEI Lecture titled, "India's macroeconomic Performance and Policies in the Nineties" was delivered on November 9, 2001 by Dr. Shankar Acharya, Honorary Professor, ICRIER at the Marga Institute in Colombo.

4. The Fourth SANEI Lecture titled, "Economic Performance of Sri Lanka in the Nineties" was delivered on February 19, 2002, by A S Jayawardena, Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka at ICRIER, New Delhi.

5. SANEI and ICRIER organised a lecture by Prof Mariano Tommasi on the "Political Economy of Reforms" on August 13, 2003 in New Delhi. Prof. Tommasi, a distinguished Political Economist and the Chairman of the Department of Economics, Universidad de san Andres, Argentina is also the Director of Centre of Studies for Institutional Development, Argentina.

6. SANEI-ICRIER jointly organised a Public Lecture by Prof Abhijit Banerjee, Professor of Economics, MIT, on the "World Bank of the Future: Making Aid Work" on November 17 2003 in New Delhi. Dr Arvind Virmani, Director, ICRIER, chaired the Lecture.

7. SANEI and PIDE organized an Invited National Lecture on “Perfect Competition and Economic Development” by SANEI Research Advisory Panel Member, Prof. Dr M. Ali Khan, Abram Hutzler professor of Political Economy, John Hopkins University, USA, on 6 Sep, 2007 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The lecture was chaired by Engr. Dr. Akram Sheikh, Deputy Chairman/Minister of State, Planning Commission, Govt of Pakistan.

8. SANEI organized an invited lecture on “Indian Economy: Looking Ahead” delivered by Dr Isher Judge Ahluwalia, Chairperson of Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, on the evening of 31 August,2007. The lecture was chaired by Prof. T.N Srinivasan, Department of Economics, Yale University, USA."

9. SANEI & PIDE organized an invited lecture on “Reforms and the Indian Economics Performance: Past and Prospectus” delivered by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Director and chief Executive Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations New Delhi, India, on 23rd April, 2008. The lecture was chaired by Ms Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Member of National Assembly and Executive Director of the Pakistan Center for Philanthropy (PCP) and also presided by Dr Rashid Amjad Co-ordinator SANEI, Vice Chancellor PIDE and Dr Asad Ali Shah Member (Infrastructure) Planning Division. The lecture was attended by members of Planning Division, former Directors of PIDE. The heads of the member institute of SANEI in Pakistan were also invited in the lecture.
