Seventh
Annual Conference, Islamabad, Pakistan
The Seventh Annual Conference of the South Asia Network of Economic
research Institutes (SANEI) was held in Islamabad during 22-23,
December 2005. Hon. Minister for Privatization and Investment, Dr.
Abdul Hafeez Sheikh delivered the inaugural address.

The Conference brought together 30 participants from member countries
in South Asia. The chairman SANEI, members of the Steering Committee
and Research Advisory Panel, eminent discussants, researchers doing
collaborative projects under SANEI VII and other SANEI – GDN funded
projects participated in the Conference.
Researchers of the studies funded under SANEI VII presented their
work-in-progress reports. Discussants, RAP members and other
participants provided their comments during the discussion that
followed the presentations.
The Steering Committee of SANEI met on December 22. The members
reviewed the activities and financial situation of SANEI and set out
the action plan for the next round.
Two workshops on the SANEI-GDN projects funded under
“Multidisciplinary Research and Intermediation Project (MIR)” and
“Impact of Rich Country Policies on Poverty: A Global View”, were held
on December 23. The presentations of studies were followed by the
comments of the RAP members and the other participants of the
conference.
