Conference
First
Annual Conference, New Delhi
The first conference of SANEI was held at ICRIER, New Delhi on September
1-3, 1999.
The conference provided a forum where researchers from India, Pakistan,
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal could interact. The aim was to familiarise
each other with the research being carried out in other institutes, and
to explore the potential for collaborative research.
Participants at the conference included members of the Research Advisory
Panel and the Steering Committee. Members of various existing and potential
donor agencies were also present as observers. Lyn Squire represented
the Global Development Network at the conference.
On this occasion, the India Development Report 1999-2000, prepared by
the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) was released.
A M Khusro, Chairman of the Eleventh Finance Commission released the report.
Geedreck Uswatte-Aratchi, SANEI Steering Committee member, chaired the
session where Kirit Parikh presented the highlights of the report to a
distinguished audience.
The First Meeting of the Steering Committee also took place on the occasion
of the conference.
