First Annual Conference, New Delhi

The first conference of SANEI was held at ICRIER, New Delhi on September 1-3, 1999.

First Annual Conference, New Delhi

The conference provided a forum where researchers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal could interact. The aim was to familiarise each other with the research being carried out in other institutes, and to explore the potential for collaborative research.

Participants at the conference included members of the Research Advisory Panel and the Steering Committee. Members of various existing and potential donor agencies were also present as observers. Lyn Squire represented the Global Development Network at the conference.

On this occasion, the India Development Report 1999-2000, prepared by the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) was released. A M Khusro, Chairman of the Eleventh Finance Commission released the report. Geedreck Uswatte-Aratchi, SANEI Steering Committee member, chaired the session where Kirit Parikh presented the highlights of the report to a distinguished audience.

The First Meeting of the Steering Committee also took place on the occasion of the conference.
